Non-Dom, Tax & Relocation

What is Cyprus Non-Dom status, in plain terms?

It lets you be tax resident in Cyprus while remaining "non-domiciled" for tax purposes, so dividends and interest — from Cyprus or abroad — are exempt from income tax and the Special Defence Contribution (SDC) for up to 17 years.

Do I need to live in Cyprus full-time to qualify?

No. Cyprus has a 60-day route to tax residency for people who aren't tax resident anywhere else and keep genuine ties here, as an alternative to the usual 183-day rule.

If I already pay tax somewhere else, will Cyprus tax me too?

Cyprus has an extensive double tax treaty network specifically to prevent this. We review your existing tax position before recommending any move.

How long does company formation actually take?

Once your documents are ready, incorporation with the Registrar typically takes a few working days; tax and VAT registration and bank introductions follow after that.

Do I need to be an EU citizen to register a Cyprus company?

No — company formation is open to both EU and non-EU nationals. Cyprus residency itself has separate routes for EU citizens (MEU1 registration) and non-EU citizens (a temporary residence permit).

Company Formation & Fees

Are there any costs beyond what's listed on the fee pages?

No. The formation fee and ongoing service fees shown are the full cost, excl. VAT. Anything outside standard formation - a complex group structure, for example - is quoted separately before you commit.

What happens right after I submit an order?

A member of the PMG team reviews your details and confirms them by email, along with next steps and payment instructions - no automatic charge is made until you confirm.

Can I convert a Limited company into a Holding structure later?

Yes - a Cyprus Limited can be restructured into a holding arrangement as your group grows. It's simpler to plan this from the outset, so mention it when you order if it's on your mind.

Can I add subsidiaries to a Holding structure later?

Yes - a Cyprus Holding Company is designed to consolidate international shareholdings, and new subsidiaries can be added as your group grows.

UK Non-Doms

Do I lose non-dom status the moment I leave the UK?

UK domicile and tax residence are assessed separately, and transitional rules apply depending on your circumstances. We review your specific position before recommending a timeline.

Can I keep UK-based income streams after relocating?

Yes, in most cases - UK-source income remains taxable in the UK regardless of where you're resident. What changes is the treatment of your non-UK income and gains, which is where the Cyprus non-dom exemption applies.

Is 60 days enough to actually become Cyprus tax resident?

Yes, provided you also maintain a permanent home in Cyprus, don't spend 183+ days in any other single country, and meet the business/employment ties test. We confirm eligibility against your specific circumstances.

What about UK inheritance tax exposure after I move?

IHT is moving to a residence-based test in the UK, with its own transitional timeline. This is assessed alongside - not instead of - your income tax position, and we cover it as part of the initial review.

Digital Nomads & Perpetual Travellers

Doesn't having a tax residence somewhere mean paying more tax?

Not necessarily - it means paying tax predictably, on terms you've chosen, in a jurisdiction with favourable rules for your situation, rather than risking a less favourable country claiming you by default.

I don't spend 183 days anywhere. Can I still become resident somewhere?

In Cyprus, yes - the 60-day rule is specifically designed for people who don't meet the standard 183-day test, provided you also maintain a permanent home and other qualifying ties.

Will this affect how I travel or where I can go?

No - establishing tax residency doesn't restrict your movement. It gives you a defensible base to operate from while you continue travelling as you already do.

What if I've already had a bank account closed or flagged?

That's a common starting point for clients in this position. We can usually help you re-establish proper banking once a formal tax residence is in place.

Cyprus & Dubai — Internationally Mobile

Do I need to choose between Cyprus and Dubai?

Not necessarily. Some clients structure across both - Dubai for zero personal tax and a trading base, Cyprus for EU access and non-dom treatment on investment income.

I already use Wise or Revolut. Why would I need a real bank?

EMIs are excellent for moving money but generally can't offer credit history, mortgages, or the deeper banking relationship that residency, property purchase, or business growth eventually require.

How long does company formation actually take?

Dubai free zone formation is typically measured in days. Cyprus formation, including advocate-sworn incorporation, usually takes one to two weeks depending on structure and due diligence.

Can you handle everything without me travelling first?

Much of the process - company formation, initial residency filings, and Expat Plus onboarding - can begin remotely. Some steps, such as biometrics or in-person banking appointments, will require a visit.
